Teacher: Jeff Lefkowitz
This class will teach the essential processes of building a post & rung chair while teaching how to instruct such a chair class to others. We will cover the underlying principles of these essential post & rung chair processes (such as how to determine drilling angles) so that students can apply what they learn to other chairs. Utilizing machine milling, slat mortise routing, and rung mortises at the drill press, we’ll blend machine work with hand tool techniques like drawknife and spokeshave shaping. Throughout this learning experience, we’ll discuss what it takes to be a good teacher, drawing from Jeff’s three years of assisting Brian Boggs’ classes and his ten years of teaching in his own shop.
Who should apply: More experienced woodworkers who already teach woodworking in some capacity but are looking to gain knowledge in chair-making, specifically to pass that knowledge on. All applicants must identify as historically excluded or under-represented in the field of woodworking.
Type of Class: This is a Full Affinity Class, which means all students are selected through The Chairmakers Toolbox. To learn more read the CMT Class FAQ page.
